Visual Resources Division

We are very happy to announce the Visual Resources Division of ARLIS/NA has an updated web site with several new features and a changed address. Highlights of the site include links to members' online image catalogs and databases, listings for a wide range of print and online VR resources, and links to visual media daily news, opportunities and resources.

Selections from the original prints collection (e.g., Rembrandt, Durer, Japanese woodcuts). Course review pages homepages are accessible here, but content is not.

The Knight Visual Resources Facility currently houses about 430,000 slides which provide instructional and research support for the academic programs of the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning and the History of Art Department within the College of Arts and Sciences. It also serves as a resource for the entire university.

We fall into the category of having our primary web site be the one for our online Image Bank, with links off of that to many other things. Our Slide Library page does have some of our policies, etc. Like many other collections, our image bank is IP protected to campus, so you can't see the images.

An open-access, free-use site containing hundreds of original photographs of world art and architecture works in the public domain, created by Allan Kohl. It is not password protected, and may be freely accessed and used by anyone in the world.

The Institute of Fine Arts Visual Resources Collections web page is partof the Institute's overall site. Most of our on-line information is publicly accessible, with the exception of on-line course reserves, which are password protected and only available
to students signed up for individual courses.

A portion of the Clark's visual resources collection can be accessed through the library catalog.  Image collections in the catalog include the David A. Hanson Collection of the History of Photomechanical Reproduction, and the Clark's museum collection.

Architecture Visual Resources Library Collection has 300,000 35mm slides, 35,000 lantern slides, and a web-accessible image database, SPIRO. SPIRO is useful for finding sources of images, authority work, and subject terms. Approximately 25% of SPIRO's content is available for licensing, including the Esherick, Lifchez, Stump, and Upton collections.

Collection has over 300,000 slides, digital images and CD ROMs supporting classroom instruction and reserves. Along with traditional fine art images, such as painting, sculpture and architecture, the slide collection also has representations from many other mediums, including film and video stills, garden reference and theater. MARC records for slides are searchable on ROGER, UCSD's library catalog.
